Accommodation is self catering and available in the form of three Oaktree rondavel style chalets and Gumtree dormitory style accommodation. Camping is allowed anywhere on the reserve although we do not offer any camping facilities. Please find more information and prices below. Water is available at the accommodation area if you need to fill your containers. Day visitors are also welcome. Please note that the access road is not suitable for sedan vehicles. A bakkie, SUV or minibus is ideal. Thaba Thabo Nature Reserve is found on Google Maps for easy navigation.
MTN cellular reception is available everywhere on the reserve and Vodacom is available only on the ridges. WiFi is available at the accommodation and is free and uncapped. All geysers, fridges and stoves are operated by gas. We offer electrical plugs for charging purposes but due to the electricity being generated by solar power please leave items like electrical blankets and hairdryers at home. We do not have television available which makes Thaba Thabo the perfect breakaway from city life. The tap water is of exceptional quality and visitors are encouraged to fill all their empty containers prior to departure.
Oaktree Chalets
Oaktree consists of three rustic and cosy rondavel style sandstone chalets. Each consists of one double bed, kitchenette, double gas plate, fridge and a Dover wood stove for heating or alternatively a gas heater. The bathroom consists of a shower, basin and toilet. Also enjoy the outside braai area or have a braai next to one of the dams. The price is R450 per person per night, 50% off for children 2 - 12 and free to children under the age of 2. Guided hiking trails are available at an additional cost of R200 per person per trail but visitors are welcome to walk on their own everywhere they wish.
Gumtree Accommodation
Gumtree offers rustic dormitory style accommodation and consists of three bedrooms, open plan living area and kitchen, two showers and several toilets. It has a fridge, gas stove with oven and a wood stove for heating. It can house up to 14 guests but is also ideal for smaller groups or even only a couple. It has a boma braai area with firepit. The price is R450 per person per night, 50% off for children aged 2 - 12 and free to children under the age of 2. Guided hiking trails are available at an additional cost of R200 per person per trail but visitors are welcome to walk on their own anywhere they wish.
Camping
Camping is allowed anywhere on the reserve although we do not offer any camping facilities. You therefor have to bring with what you will need. Water is available at the accommodation area at no cost if you need to fill containers. The cost of camping is R200 per vehicle per day plus R200 per person per day, 50% off to children aged 2 - 12 and free to children under 2 years of age. Guided hiking trails are available at an additional cost of R200 per person per trail but visitors are welcome to walk on their own anywhere they wish.
Day Visits
Day visitors are welcome. Have a picnic overlooking the Maluti mountains or a braai next to one of our dams. Please note that no visitors are allowed without prior arrangement. The cost for day visits are R200 per person per day, 50% off to children aged 2 - 12 and free to children under 2 years of age. Guided hiking trails are available at an additional cost of R200 per person per trail but visitors are also welcome to walk on their own anywhere they wish.
Important Information
What We Provide
- The accommodation is cleaned daily.
- Cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and cooking utensils are provided.
- We provide the bedding. Please note that we provide blankets & NOT duvets.
- Towels are provided.
- We DO NOT provide tea, coffee, shampoo, etc.
- Firewood & ice are for sale on the reserve (R70 & R15 per bag).
- A wash only laundry service at R20 p/kg.
Payment
- A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required to secure a booking.
- The balance is payable prior to arrival or upon arrival if paid in cash.
- We accept credit cards, debit cards, EFT and cash.
Pets
Pets are allowed only by prior arrangement. The pets must be kept under control at all times and dogs kept on a leash due to the fact that we have many farm animals free ranging including chickens. All damage caused by pets will be for the account of its owner.
Arrival & Departure Times
- Time of arrival from 12 pm. We strongly suggest that guests arrive before sunset on the first visit.
- Time of departure no later than 10 am.
- The above times are not applicable to hunters.
The above times are applicable to occupation of the accommodation units only. Guests may arrive earlier and/or depart later as long as the accommodation is not occupied during those times.
Indemnity
All guests are required to sign an indemnity form which includes their full names and ID number. Admission will be denied in case of refusal to complete and sign the indemnity form. Please find the links to the visitors' and hunters' indemnity forms below.
